Customer health scores are supposed to answer a simple question: How likely is this account to renew and expand—and why?

A health score should reflect progress toward the customer’s definition of success.
Start with success outcomes, not data you happen to have
For each segment/use case, define:
- Primary outcomes (e.g., reduce onboarding time, deflect tickets, increase pipeline conversion)
- Activation milestones that lead to those outcomes
- Behavioral signals that indicate the outcome is repeatable
Tie product signals to outcomes

Two critical design rules
- Trend overrides snapshot: if a key indicator is declining fast, cap the score even if others are strong.
- Driver visibility: show the sub-scores so CSMs know what to do.
7) Recommendations for early churn detection (practical and proven)
A) Track “negative deltas,” not just thresholds
Many churn events are preceded by declines:
